Little Listeners: Engaging Our Autism Class With Tonies

Help me give my students a Toniebox and storybook characters so they can independently access stories and music in a way that supports their routine and sensory needs while building confidence and functional listening skills.

My Project

My Preschool and Kindergarten students in this Autism class are truly special for the unique, and often joyful ways they interact with the world. They thrive on clear structure, predictable routines, and sensory experiences that help them feel safe and regulated. They absolutely love books and spending time in our cozy reading corner, often choosing to explore stories during free choice time. Our classroom is a supportive space where we work hard to build critical foundational skills like communication, attention, and independent choice-making, celebrating every milestone (from a successful transition to a new word learned).

The Toniebox will make a profound difference in their learning by providing a predictable, screen-free, and individualized audio experience that directly supports their sensory and developmental needs.

This is much more than a simple listening center; it's a therapeutic tool. The simple, functional motor task of placing a character on the box encourages fine motor development while simultaneously giving students control over their learning and fostering independence. Additionally, the consistent, repetitive stories and songs strengthen auditory processing skills and extend their attention spans in a low-pressure, highly engaging way.

My primary goals for this project are to boost independent work skills during center time, provide a calming sensory tool for self-regulation, and significantly enhance our students' receptive language and listening comprehension. By giving them the Toniebox, you are giving them the gift of calm, predictable access to quality stories and music and helping them feel successful and confident in their learning environment.
