My kindergarten students come from a small town near the Shenandoah Valley. For many, this is their first school experience. They are young, playful, and eager to learn.
My students love all things hands-on!
They learn through touching, playing and exploring the classroom. We use manipulatives daily to boost our learning. We also use real world objects (such as money, tools, and pictures) to spark excitement.
Being a first time kindergarten teacher, I love watching their progress. I know they will be very excited for these new manipulatives to help them grow.
My Project
I am asking for individual sets of magnetic letters. These individual sets will allow the students freedom to learn throughout the room.
Magnetic letters are key to making the connection between concrete letter knowledge and abstract written work.
Students will have the ability to manipulate the letters in a way that makes sense to them. They can work at their own pace in literacy centers without worry.
I am asking for a class set to save time and the fight that comes with sharing letters. If each student has access to their own set of letters they can take charge of their learning.
Students will use these letters in small groups with the teacher, in literacy centers, and during free time when they've finished a task early. The quality of the letters also means that classess many years from now will enjoy this tool.
