Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are very curious learners in this ever-growing world of technology we live in. Our school is a Title 1 school meaning our school population has high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families.
This year, I am teaching STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) to students in kindergarten, 1st grade, 3rd grade, and 5th grade.
These students are curious learners and are ready to take on STEAM challenges in the classroom. Being in a Title 1 school area, these students are not exposed to as much technology or resources as other students in parts of the world or even our city may be.
With so many opportunities at our fingertips, these students deserve to be given the chance to explore STEAM concepts in a more concrete, hands-on way to deepen their understanding and foster their desire to learn.
My Project
When teaching abstract science and technology concepts to kindergarten students through 10 year- olds, hands-on experiences work best. LEGO's are exciting for these students a sit is something familiar but in school, we will be able to take their building skills to the next level with coding principles, math, and science in scenarios they can relate to. Students will soon think of LEGOs as a way to build a prototype for their real-life ideas and possibly inspire a future career rather than thinking of LEGOs as small toys. Please help my students get the experience and exposure they need to succeed in this world.
