This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are an inner city, High-5 through eighth grade elementary school in a very high poverty area of a large metropolitan school district. Many students have their first experiences with science during their time with me. One unique aspect to our school is that we serve a large population of Somalians that are new to our country.

The majority of my students are English language learners from both East Africa and Latin America.

Our free lunch status is ninety-eight percent or higher. My teaching position is one of a resource or specialist teacher who serves over 650 students throughout the school year. One of my personal joys is teaching these students year after year as they transition through their elementary grade levels.

My Project

Our High 5 and kindergarten students will learn about engineering and robotics with these primary grade cube robots. Often times the resources we have for students to learn about robotics are leveled just out of reach of the primary grade learners. Products like LEGO Mindstorm and Orbits are a bit too complicated for our little learners. This is where Cubelets come in.

These mini cube robots are specifically designed to teach students 4-6 years old about robotics and the engineering process.

The open ended design of these cube robots also allows students to express their creativity in ways other robot systems do not. Our young engineers will have countless opportunities to uncover and discover STEM using these tools.
