This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a class of twenty-four amazing first grade students in a diverse Title 1 community located in the inner-city. It is in one of the largest cities in the country where all students receive free breakfast and lunch. They love to learn and love to show others what they've learned.

To help them overcome the challenges they currently face at home, I am eager to provide them with meaningful resources to support their at-home learning.

My little learners have been working with what they have at home and continue to keep their spirits up as best they can. However, these things alone, are not enough to encourage and entice young learners.

My Project

I am eager to continue helping my first graders make the transition to distance learning from home. Yes, it's been rough, but with a positive attitude, one filled with gratitude, we will continue to move forward. With these sketchpads and markers, I hope my students will freely express themselves and show the world what it was like for them during these tough times through art.

Little learners at this stage of development love to tap into their imaginations, sketch, and share!

Art is an effective coping mechanism and many of my students enjoy drawing! I hope this will help give them some peace of mind during this pandemic. Thank you for supporting my first graders and their education. May you stay healthy and safe during these very uncertain times.
