This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My first graders love books! But, we REALLY love Big Books! My first graders are really looking forward to learning how to read this year. What better way to get them all involved with literacy than with Big Books?

I am the teacher of 23 amazing, incredible, fabulous, and terrific first graders!

Our school is situated in an urban setting, within a high-poverty neighborhood. Many of our children can't even afford the basic school necessities, but that doesn't stop us from being the best first grade class ever! We're also a very diverse bunch! The number of students who speak English as a second language in our school is on the rise! We take great pride in our school, and our classroom. We are very hopeful that this proposal gets funded because we LOVE to read together!

My Project

I am requesting two sets of Big Books. By having such materials in our classroom, I will be able to teach both large and small groups of students. The titles that are in these two sets are FABULOUS! Some of our favorite authors are included in these sets! With these books, we will be able to learn how to read while getting excited about books! I don't know what it is about Big Books, but my students just LOVE the one we have! Unfortunately, it's pretty beat up, so we're very hopeful that we will soon be adding some nice new Big Books to our class.

My students mean the world to me.

I absolutely love them, and my job. As a first grade teacher, I think I have the best job in the world! Unfortunately, my own budget doesn't allow for me to constantly be purchasing expensive items for my class. The Big Book we have now is great, but it's old and pretty torn up. Getting some nice new books would make my kids feel really special AND help foster our love for reading! Thank you for considering our project!
