I have the honor of teaching 32 highly energetic and loving little first graders every day. Seeing their smiling faces bounce into the room every morning is the best part of my job! Although they may not admit to it, they crave structure as well as highly engaging learning activities to keep them moving, paying attention, and actively learning. This can be quite the challenge sometimes, but I leave every day knowing that I have truly made a difference. It is my life's pleasure to get the opportunity to pour into their hearts and brains every day.
Unfortunately, some of my students come from unstable home lives that can put them at a disadvantage.
It's my job to make sure we make up for those deficits the best we can by providing all learning materials necessary in order for them to reach success! Some of my students see school as a safe place of refuge and take comfort knowing that they can come here every day and have everything they need. Despite our challenges, as a class my students carry on each day and fight through the adversity in order to reach their potential. As a teacher I could not be more proud!
In our classroom, every day scholars visit a different literacy center to complete learning activities that reinforce learning, as well as provide challenge and enrichment. The centers need to be engaging and fun in order to hold the attention of the first graders, while the teachers are pulling skill based reading groups in order to meet with each child individually. With these portable CD players, our scholars will have the opportunity to visit a listening center each week where they can pick out a book and listen to an audio disc that reads the book aloud to them as they follow along.
This center will enhance the reading fluency of my students!
It is imperative that students are exposed to fluent reading on a regular basis and this center will give my students that opportunity! Even though some of my students do not hear fluent reading very often at home, with this center they will receive that exposure on a regular basis.
