My Students
On March 17th, 2020 our city closed schools due to the coronavirus pandemic. The closing was very abrupt and because we had no idea how long the closure would be, there was little time to make long term preparations for our students. We were not prepared to have schools closed for the remainder of the year. Our classrooms have been left as they were on that last day of school, untouched and full of supplies and tools for hands on learning that we unfortunately can not use.
We want all our students to have access to engaging, hands-on materials to enhance their education while at home.
While we have been able to connect with most of our students virtually; each family has varying needs during this time. Virtual learning can be overwhelming for our very young learners and we want each child to have access to some of the same hands-on materials they would if they were still in the classroom.
My Project
Although the school building is closed for the remainder of the year, our youngest students are eager to continue learning! This project will provide the materials to create Home Learning Bags.
Help give families an opportunity to engage with their child in a developmentally appropriate way while the stay at home mandate is in place.
All our families have different needs during these times and these bags will provide each child with a complete set of tools to help continue play based learning at home.
Each child will receive a bag that supplies them with basic materials such as paper, markers, scissors, and paint that will enhance lessons taught virtually. They will also receive materials to help practice their literacy skills such as name cards, letters (created by teacher) and dry erase board as well as tools such as dice, 10 frames, and dot cards (created by teacher) to help build on their growing math knowledge.
The materials will provide children will opportunities to engage in open ended exploration and help promote and facilitate creativity, problem solving and basic skills.
