This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach 30 kindergarten students in a Title I school. My students are intelligent, kind, and creative; they have a passion for learning. My class is filled with students on a variety of academic levels and English language levels.
Art supplies, pattern blocks and other manipulatives engage young learners and are a great way for them to demonstrate their understanding.
We recently began implementing a new mathematics and literacy curriculum. These new curricula allow for ample opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding through projects and with manipulatives. The projects and lessons are engaging but require a great deal of materials.
The materials I am asking for would help get us through the school year. The pattern blocks, 3D shapes, and magnetic tiles will be used during math lessons and free choice time. The students will also be using them during center time (where they get to work cooperatively with their small group). The tape and paint will be used during our literacy/art lessons. Students make their own toys using recycled materials. Finally, I am asking for a thermometer. We discuss temperature and weather in literacy and this thermometer will help the students have a visual during the lesson.
