We are a small Title 1 School where >50% of our students are low income. Despite that statistic, we are an "A" school! Our students stay at our school from pre-k through fifth grade, so they grow up under our care.
My goal with my first graders this year is to not only teach them the academic standards set forth for first grade, but to also teach them to be independent, problem-solving thinkers who have grit!
I know we will have a great year!
My Project
"You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book!" -Dr. Seuss
I have selected an array of books to support my students that are specific and intentional in helping them acquire quality literacy skills during their first grade voyage.
These 105 books range from level D (beginning of first grade) all the way through level J (end of first grade) to provide my students with ample resources and exposure to new words, story elements, and knowledge.
Kindergarten learners are expected to grow three levels (A-C) from the beginning to the end of the year. Second grade learners are expected to grow four levels (J-M) from the beginning to the end of the year. Third graders are expected to grow three levels (M-O) from the beginning to the end of the year. First grade learners are expected to grow EIGHT levels (D, E, F, G, H, I, J) from the beginning to the end of the year!!!! Having quality books is an absolutely necessary key to this growth, which is why I am humbly requesting books that are each of these levels.
Two-thirds of the book are fiction since students at this age learn from and love made-up stories that are appropriate for their age and life experiences. One-third of the books are non-fiction to expose my little learners to new information which will help build a strong knowledge foundation as they begin to explore science and other non-fiction-related concepts.
Thank you for considering our project and believing in us!
