My students need a book shelf for our classroom library.

Hooray! This project is fully funded
While the old adage, "Don't judge a book by its cover" is true, young children are drawn to picture books by the cover designs and illustrations.
My urban kindergartners often come to school in September without any prior schooling experience.
Their impoverished homes are not supportive of early learning, so many of them cannot even recognize their own written names or identify any letters of the alphabet. Most of my students are English language learners and begin school with limited English proficiency. These children transform throughout the year and end the year as readers!
My kindergartners need bookshelves that hold books with the covers facing out. Standard bookshelves make it difficult for young children to select books of interest. We currently have several plastic bins with books, but they take up a lot of floor space in our classroom. My students read books independently and with partners at various times throughout the day. They also get to choose a book to borrow each day to read at home.
A well-organized, inviting library system will support these early readers and help spark their interest in reading a variety of books.
This shelf will allow us to get the bins off the floor, freeing up valuable space for movement and learning. My kindergartners will be able to easily access books throughout the day. The compartments are large enough to hold hardcovers and paperbacks, so my investment in our classroom books will be protected.
