Little Hands Need Little Brushes: Age Appropriate Art Tools
My students need a variety of paint brushes, that are an age appropriate size, as well as a few pairs of large and small left-handed scissors.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Can we paint today?" is the question I am asked most often by students of all ages as they enter the room. On "yes" days the room fills with excitement and energy; students can't wait to start their projects. Unfortunately, they often struggle with tools that don't match their unique needs.
Each week I teach 700 students, Kindergarten through eighth grade, who are eager to express their creativity and get their hands on new and exciting art materials.
My students, largely first and second generation Americans, are growing up in a large urban school district, whose budget cuts resulted in the suspension of our school's Art program for many years.
Despite its being run out of a lunchroom, our brand new Art program has already seen fantastic results. The walls of our space are covered with beautiful pieces that make students and families proud.
My Project
Throughout the year students will create pieces inspired by various art movements, cultures, and elements of design. The tools I am requesting will allow students to more easily transfer their thoughts onto paper and canvas.
Kindergarten hands must have kindergarten-sized brushes, and eighth graders need the option of various brush sizes and shapes to add detail and depth to their artistic expressions.
With the addition of left-handed scissors to the supply closet, lefty students will no longer struggle to create collages, or paper sculptures.
Imagine a child on his first day of kindergarten.
Now think of that same child at his eighth grade graduation. Our students experience dramatic emotional and physical changes over the course of nine years, and their imaginations must not be stifled by tools designed for someone else.
By supporting this project, you will be providing little (and big) artists with the tools they need to share their creativity with the world, as well as develop essential critical thinking and problem solving skills.
