Help me give my students books to have at home to encourage their love for books, especially when their parents have a special book to read to them and encourage reading throughout their lives.
As supporters of lifelong learning, our preschool and pre-kindergarten staff serve three to five-year-old children on the west side of Indianapolis, Indiana. Many of our families live in poverty and fifty-nine percent of our children receive special education services.
We know children learn better when we can provide books in their home.
This will give them an edge in their learning as reading is so important to lifelong learning.
Our children come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds. Our staff works hard to provide a variety of learning opportunities for our children throughout the year to continually support families in many ways. Many of our families work in low-income jobs.
My Project
The challenges of 2020 have seen most of our 279 preschoolers, virtually learning at home, while some of our children with special education needs have returned to in-person learning. No matter which environment students are learning, many of these children lack books in their homes.
My request to you is for a donation for books to be sent home with a special group of our 3,4,& 5-year-old preschoolers so they can begin their journey of becoming great readers!
These 66 children have special education needs and they have returned to in-person learning. These books will be critical in their literacy development! We know reading is the core of all learning and getting these books in our preschoolers' hands, will be a great start on their journey as lifelong learners.
