Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach in a Chicago Public School three miles West of Lake Michigan. My eighteen second grade students love to garden. They have learned how to sprout seeds by placing seeds in a cardboard egg carton. With plenty of water and sun, the seeds are ready to place in the school garden within two weeks. We will carefully take care of them and watch them bloom and beautify our school garden for the student body to enjoy. We plan to teach our first grade buddies this technique so that they will learn how to appreciate and take care of our garden. As a team, we will work together to make our garden beautiful. There are many benefits to team teaching. To teach a subject, the second grade students must know the subject well. The first grade students learn how to teach so they can in turn teach their younger buddies. Together, we will sprout our seeds, name them and write stories about them. We will read and research about city gardens and how they were developed. Our test scores will soar as we read and learn all about this seeds and gardens. As a benefit to our buddies, we would like to take them on a trip to Botanic Gardens in Glencoe, Illinois so they may see the best garden in Chicago. All we need is an electric pencil sharpener & pencils to write our stories, and a bus fee for this trip to happen.
