Little Free Library for Little Learners and Their Community
Help me give my students a little free library to utilize and to create an improved and more inclusive playground that will benefit the community as well.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our preschool program is moving towards more inclusive environments and classrooms. As we do this, we have decided to take up the task of making our playground more inclusive. One phase in this is to add a Little Free Library, a seating space to enjoy books, as well as a shaded space to sit under while books are enjoyed. This project's completion will bring us steps closer to the final goal.
Lending books to our littles increases literacy!
Not only will students and teachers of all abilities be able to enjoy the experience of reading books at our playground, but students and their families, as well as community members, will be able to share and trade stories. Our school is about 9 miles in radius and the nearest library requires crossing very busy roads. Putting a Little Free Library at a place where families and community members can access it will make this more accessible and give teachers a place to store books out of the elements to use outdoors as well!
