I teach Pre-K in a low-income, rural community. In Pre-K, my students are learning to communicate, how to play with friends, letters and sounds, how to write, counting and numbers, and developing gross and fine motor skills. We use a variety of different materials both inside and outside of our classroom in order to reach these goals. My students love classroom center time, creating artistic masterpieces, playing outside, and dancing and singing along to music!
In outdoor learning, students learn through what they do, through what they encounter and through what they discover.
They learn about the outdoors, themselves and each other, while also learning outdoor skills. I am hopeful that through donations, I can provide my students with items to help them explore the world outside of the classroom. The binoculars will be used for activities like nature scavenger hunts, exploring how leaves change, and things in the sky! The insect items and magnifiers will help my students learn about the life cycles of the insects we see on a regular basis outside of our classroom. The science viewers will enable the students to use their sense of sight and the light from the sun! The sand items will enable the students to build fine motor skills. The bubble supplies will provide the opportunity for students to study science concepts such as elasticity, surface tension, chemistry, light, and even geometry! The art supplies will help them create and replicate items from nature.
Outdoor exploration and play are an important part of childhood! These new materials will help my Pre-K students learn outside of the classroom!
