Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
It's almost the end of the day, and their little brains are still having to endure the science lesson. My classroom is in need of magnifying glasses, sink and float kits, and other science materials so that we can carry out the lessons.
Our campus is composed of an amazing group of students that are underprivileged because of their low socioeconomic status.
My kindergarten students are little five- and six-year-olds that love school and come with their best disposition everyday to learn. I am trying to get across to them the importance of education and inspire them to love learning.
My Project
My classroom is in need of science materials that will enhance student learning during instructional time as well as during their independent learning in centers. We need magnifying glasses to do explorations during our living and non-living lessons. There is a sink or float lesson and the kit provides the perfect materials to carry it out. In kinder, students are introduced to rocks, soil, etc., and the Feel & Discover Earth Bag has many different items that are great for them to use. We also do a lot of exploring of the senses, learn about the weather and about the life cycles, and that is why I have included the Five Senses, the Weather & Seasons Instant Learning Centers and the Life Cycles Theme Box that they can use in the science center to reinforce the content from the lessons. The puzzles and the color tubes will also be great instructional tools that we do not have in our classroom. All of these materials would be extremely helpful in teaching my kinder students.
Educators across the United States are made to focus most of their instructional time teaching language arts.
I believe this is the reason that as a nation, we have fallen behind in math and science. In an effort to improve the quality of instruction in science, I am asking for your help in funding this project that is focused in improving the quality of instruction for kindergarten students. These materials will not only be of great help this year, but for many more to come. Thank you.
