Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year has been like no other! We have rolled out with our new STEM program for all students kinder through fifth grade and it has been amazing. We are a relatively new school, as this will be our third academic school year. As a school, we are very proud of all that we have accomplished in such a short amount of time.
Our school is comprised of 1,000+ students and come from a multitude of backgrounds.
Being located in a military city, we have a high number of students that fluctuate in and out of our schools. Another part of our population are families that are non-English speaking, thus labeling us as a bilingual campus. The staff at our school goes above and beyond to help every child, no matter their background become successful emotionally and academically. By adding our new STEM program it will help our students become more confident in their abilities to problem solve and become critical thinkers.
My Project
As our schools STEM teacher I am always trying to find new resources to keep the all students engaged and allow for critical thinking opportunities. I also want my students to understand different STEM careers.
With these materials I will be able to accomplish hands-on activities while being able to teach a variety of careers.
With the architect building sets we can discuss building codes and proper placement of specific features. Students need to gain the foundation necessary to realize that a sturdy foundation with solid walls makes for a safe building. The magnetic pattern blocks and design mats will lead students to understand that everything is made up of basic shapes.
All of these materials will start off with a mini lesson to peak students interest and allow students to explore what resources they would like during independent station time.
