Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The seeds of scientific intrigue must be planted early so that students encounter the laws of nature and can make some sense out of it. I need materials that will enormously enrich my teaching and give my students experiences that go considerably beyond the picture, pencil and paper activities.
I will be teaching an all day pre-kindergarten class this Fall in the Bronx.
The children come from various backgrounds, many of whom are very disadvantaged. I will be teaching 18 enthusiastic, little students. The children have limited outdoor play places, and often come to school with limited knowledge of the natural world. We are a large, urban school in New York City and many of the children come from families who are struggling financially. Our parents are all wonderful and value education. Our administrators and teachers are all working hard to give our students a quality education. However, certain gaps exist in schools across America. We lack many resources and hope you can help us.
My Project
I am requesting 3-D Science Viewers so the children can look up close at the wonders of nature in 3D! The children will just slide a disc in and then pull the lever to switch from one fascinating photo to the next! We would like plant specimens to take a fascinating look at different types of plants. We need two interactive CDs for our new Smartboard, one on plants and one on the weather and seasons. Lastly, we need magnetic rings that will enable the children to follow pattern cards by stacking colored ring magnets. My main goal in pre-k is to keep the children engaged and interested in learning. If I can keep the children engaged, I believe I will keep their interest which will lead to a strong foundation in early childhood science. I would like to give my young students the kind of experiences that will encourage them to become lifelong learners. A strong science program in the early grades can lay the foundation for a lifetime of learning in exploration and discovery.
I try to make my classroom a constructionist one with emphasis on understanding by doing things hands-on.
These materials can assist my students in nurturing their love and appreciation for all living things and pique their interest in the world around them. Young children are so curious and eager to learn. Please consider funding us. Thank you for reading our proposal.
