Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school strives to find the leader in all students. Every child has capabilities, talents, and strengths; sometimes, all it takes is exposure or motivation. The students in my class strive for excellence. They all inherently care about one another and continually make an effort to improve in all aspects.
My class consists of 18 amazing students.
Of those 18, nine are English learners and three are in speech. They all have a think win-win attitude and do their personal best to contribute to our classroom community.
My Project
My students need a listening center! Helping our classroom with the funds for this technology would allow groups of students to listen to stories being read to them during literacy centers while they closely follow along with the words on the pages. As research-based best practices suggest, following along to stories read-aloud greatly improves students' reading as it models fluency, accuracy, and expression at a steady rate. These components are crucial to engaging students in the adventures of texts.
I love reading stories to my students!
However, the experience of reading independently and getting lost in a great book is truly invaluable! A listening center will develop their reading level, push them to grade level texts, and set them on a path for future success as their love for reading is enhanced.
