Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students with disabilities are dynamic and unique. Our students are constantly moving and learning. Our goal is for each student to attain learning readiness and meet their potential. “There needs to be more emphasis on what a child can do instead of what he cannot do.”-Dr. Temple Grandin
We are a new organization that consists of three special education sites in the South Bronx.
We are housed in improvised New York City neighborhoods. Our students/little leaders are energetic and eager to learn. They are students on the autism spectrum, intellectually disabled, multiple handicapped and with emotional needs in grades K -2. Many of our students and their families live in temporary housing or shelters.
My Project
We are requesting a leveled library unit and a set of 50 leveled books. Our little leaders are eager to learn how to read. Many of the parents do not know how to read. Access to the books in the leveled libraries requested will help our students and their families reach their goal. They will be given the hands on opportunity to interact with each other and engage in meaningful learning. Through the leveled libraries they will meet the Common Core Learning Standards of exposure to different types of works of literature.
Books are windows to the world.
With the donation of the leveled library, our students and their families will have access to different works of literature that will open their minds and expand their learning. Our little leaders are sponges waiting to experience the wonders of books.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
