Little Archers

My students need archery bows that are a lighter weight so my smaller students can shoot.

My Students

Their not strong enough! My students love the archery unit in Physical Education. 7th grade students come in all shapes and sizes. Some of my students are too small to pull the bow string on the current bows I use for the archery unit. We need bows with a lower string weight.

My classes consist of 7th and 8th grade students.

The majority of my students come from low income households. Many of my students have not had a lot of opportunities to participate in activities or sports that are not offered in after school programs. Most of my students have never shot a bow an arrow before, so this is usually the first time for most and it is something they really looked forward to.

My Project

I am requesting new low weight archery bows for my smaller students in my archery unit. I get many 7th graders that weigh under 100 pounds and cannot pull back the current bows that I use in my archery unit. Archery is the favorite unit of most of my students and it is really disappointing to some of my little seventh graders when they cannot participate at the same level as the other students just because they are too small.My archery unit, as important as it is, it is also the most expensive unit. Arrows and targets faces have to be replaced on a regular basis, which leaves no resources to help buy bows or targets.

My project is important because archery is the favorite unit of most of my students.

It is a unit many of my students would not ever get to participate in if it were not for this opportunity. Archery is also a unit that all students, whatever their fitness level, and with appropriate equipment, that all students can succeed in. By purchasing low weight bows my smaller students can focus on correct shooting fundamentals instead of trying to use all their energy pulling back the bow string.
