My Project

Kuleana in the Hawaiian language is Responsibility. Litter is everyone's responsibility, whether it is at home, at school, or in the community. We always see trash on the ground, but 9 out of 10 people will leave it for the next person to pick up. Our school custodians are overworked and understaffed, and sometimes it shows with the amount of trash our school creates and just throws everywhere. We would like the supplies to be able to help pick up trash on the farm, the rest of the school campus, and even in the community when we go on field trips.

Having trash pickers and trash bags readily available will enable us to combat the litter problem anywhere we go.

Unfortunately, our school is next to a public road, and sometimes trash gets thrown out and flies all over. We will be able to help our school and community by doing litter pick-ups, and it will make our students more responsible and have a hand in making our world a better place to be. We might not make a huge impact with our efforts, but we will have made a difference to our school and the community around us.
