This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Literature opens up a child's world. This is the perfect opportunity for our Title 1 students to embrace literature. The students have a 90 minute reading block daily and this center is an integral part of higher education and understanding.

I teach 26 first graders in a diverse, K-6, public elementary school. We begin our first grade day with a super breakfast and then our 90-minute reading block.

During this reading time, we meet in small groups, participating in several reading activities and independent work. My goal is for every child to read at level various types of genres and to love reading! We are a Title I school with 100% of our population on free or reduced price lunch. Some students are on individual educational plans and this will assist them to reach their goals have a wonderful group of 26 students! They have settled into our classroom routine and are a loving, kind, eager group of learners! These first graders are eager to please and to learn. I found that they all learn differently, and it is fun to challenge them and see them grow! In my classroom, I have centers set up to utilize during small group instruction. The students are grouped by alike reading skills and are seen for small groups daily to target specific areas of reading that they are needing to work on. These students are progress monitored every other week to see if they meet the First Grade phonemic standards and goals. But, we need new supplies to enhance the literacy center that has broken earphones and an old tape player.

My Project

My students need six headphones, a new Best-Buy Listening Center, and the Ants-Read-Along set. I plan on using the books and compact discs for leveled reading and also for a listening/reading center. The students will listen to a story and answer questions about that story using story elements and comprehension skills. This will enhance the skills that we are working on in class and develop fluency with reading.

The Best-Buy Listening Center will give my students the opportunity to read and listen to books that they don't always have at home.

The books will introduce diverse genres to the students. The books and compact discs will enhance the classroom library and give the students schema for what comes ahead in future topics and grades. This will improve their attitude about reading and coming to school!
