My students need 100 copies of the novel Night to read independently as well as in class and in literature groups. Personal copies are essential for students to close read and annotate using sticky notes.
Eighth grade student who come to our middle school come from a wide range of backgrounds and ability levels when it comes to reading and writing.
"The more that you read, the more things you will know, the more that you learn, the more places you’ll go." - Dr Seuss.
Empowering students to become the best readers and writers they can be is one of the goals I have as a teacher. Reading and writing are essential skills needed as my students continue and grow as learners. I hope to instill a love of reading and writing in all my students.
I have 160 students in total for all my classes, and encouraging students to read is sometimes a battle. Some students struggle with comprehension, and much of the struggle has to do with finding a book that interests them. Not having a personal copy to use makes it difficult for students to practice strategies like close reading and annotation.
Since reading is a struggle for so many kids, I want to empower them with tools and novels rich with content and rigor to help them excel.
We need 100 copies of the book Night.
My students are excited about reading, and I want to continue this excitement for them with rich literature and book for each student. Reading is so important, and when kids find this love, we need to keep it going!
