Literature Saturation

My students need a nonfiction leveled classroom library.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Snyder's classroom raised $831

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Some of our students have never been to a public library, nor do they have a library card. Some households are not able to supply our students with a literature-rich environment due to the lack of books and additional literature. The need to saturate students in literature is there.

Our dedicated students are members of an inner city public school in Maryland.

The student population is comprised mostly of Latino and Latina students who are learning English as a second language. Our students come from families who are involved in their education and who are determined for their children to succeed.

My Project

This leveled library will provide me with the opportunity to tailor instruction to develop the foundation and skills that each student needs based on interests and ability level. The instruction will be driven by analyzed school data, which provides me with specific steps and goals for each student. Students and teachers need a plethora of authentic and interesting pieces of literature to read to and with students. I intend to teach students how to read extremely well. I will then supply students with the opportunity to choose from a lending library so that they have literature to read at home. These experiences will increase their ability to read and improve their reading comprehension. This specific selection of books will be used to create rich discussions and a desire to learn to read at school and home.

These books will be "on loan" to my students so that they can practice reading at home.

These books will provide families with the opportunity to engage in meaningful bedtime stories and daily interactions with literacy. These books will also open up the opportunity for students to read to younger siblings to help jump-start and foster their school career. The knowledge and experiences students will have with these great books will foster their academic achievements for years to come.
