My Students

Do you remember your parents reading you a bedtime story each night? This doesn't happen in many of my students homes. Getting books on CD for my students will allow them to listen to these classic stories in my Listening Center.

My students LOVE listening to stories and looking the the colorful pictures of the books I choose.

Every time there is a free moment they beg to read books on the carpet. I know this is because they don't have many books at home, they never visit libraries or have never been read to. I hope that my introducing my students to more classic literature, they will find a life long love of reading.

My Project

The books I have chosen are classic favorites we have all enjoyed. There are fairy tales like THE THREE BEARS and THE THREE BILLY GOATS GRUFF and other award winners like BLUEBERRIES FOR SAL. Can you even imagine that these children have never heard them before?!? These are stories teach morals, have amazing illustrations, are great for retelling and sequencing, and excellent for teaching story elements. These characters are referred to in many other books/movies but my students don't even know who they are, so its hard for them to understand without this background knowledge. Having these books on CD, will be an amazing example of how good readers read. As teachers, we model good fluency and story telling but I am not a professional story teller. I have heard many of these books on CD before, they are amazing! Nothing beats Paul Galdone's version of THE THREE BILLY GOATS GRUFF!

Exposing my students to literature is part of my job.

I do this everyday with the read alouds that I choose. Unfortunately there are more books that I will ever have time to read. Giving my students these books on CD to use in my Listening Center during independent time will help them catch up on the classics while demonstrating what amazing books available and hopefully, have them begging for more.
