My students are curious. They come from a an area of low income homes and apartments. Everyday they come into class with different questions about what they have heard on TV or from a relative. We spend about 5 minutes discussing how the questions may benefit the group and if the question are in the format of a problem we brainstorm ways to fix it.
Just as you and I, they have their personal problems but are growing into the culture of helping each other, to get through everything together and maintain a healthy environment that supports everyone’s learning.
We are growing learners. My students enjoy reading! We have alternating library weeks, when it is time to go there isn't any time waisted in transition to pick out a new journey! When its time to share about their new book, they are eager to try and persuade you to read the same book!
The donation to this project for my classroom and students will improve students stamina in reading, increase practice of studying at home (prepping for college), and build students complete and intellectual responses within the classroom environment during discussions. Our classroom motto this year is "We Read to Comprehend." So far we have, as a class, come to the realization that reading fast and every word correct is not our goal, but to understand what we are reading, as well as, formulate and answer questions about our text. With this project being funded students wil be able to deepen their love for reading and with the continuous practice master their reading goals this year and years to come! Thank you in advance!
