My Project

My students have been studying the Holocaust. We've researched how Hitler came to power and the path to genocide. We've discussed the dehumanization of so many people and the abuses of power. We've read Elie Wiesel's speech at the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and we're about to read the drama based on the diary of Anne Frank. The play is wonderful in helping students understand the tension leading up to the use of concentration camps for extermination, but does not depict the horrors within.

We need copies of Night to provide a well-rounded and thorough depiction of the Holocaust.

Elie Wiesel's imagery and words are perfect for extending their thinking beyond the play.

Typically our 8th graders read The Book Thief, but the book is 600 pages long and I'd hate to begin a book we can't finish by the end of the school year.

The books will be maintained as a class set and used for years to come.
