This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember what it was like the first time you read a book that you couldn't put down? I want my students to experience that too! Sadly, our library is a bit dated and rather small. We are currently trying to build up our collection of interesting and exciting reading materials!

My amazing young students are bright, enthusiastic and curious about the world.

98% of the student population at our school is made up of children coming from low socio-economic households. My students often lack exposure to the communities and world around them. Exciting literature can help take them to new places!

My Project

My school's curriculum provides an anthology with short stories to read. While it has some engaging content, there is not much variety. Nor does it offer the opportunity to do much silent sustained reading. Many of my students are struggling readers and will greatly benefit from having a variety of engaging books to choose from so that they will desire to read and therefore be eager to practice more. The selection of books I've requested cover a variety of subjects and are written by a variety of authors. These books were chosen based on the interest of my students and based on the books' popularity amongst other third graders across the nation.

My classroom library is in desperate need of new books that will inspire my students to be thirsty for more literature.

Please help motivate my students to be better readers by providing them with exciting and engaging reading materials!
