Our students are energetic, full of life, and motivated. However, more than anything our students are inspiring. Many of our students have jumped from school-to-school and house-to-house. Many of our students are living in less than ideal housing with too many people in too small of spaces. Many of our students receive free or reduced price lunches. Many of our students are raising themselves. However, our students are inspiring. Our students show up on most days ready to learn because they understand the importance of an education. But there are those days when their home life is just too much for them to bare or their classmate has pushed them over the edge or their homework is just too difficult. They are frustrated, angry, confused, anxious, and sad. Because of this they must have the resiliency to overcome the negative. They must have the resources within to change the pattern. They must learn more than just academics while in school.
My Project
Literature is the best way to introduce new ideas to our students. It gives them a glance into the worlds of others in a way they can relate to and grow from. Students relate to characters in books and can learn from their experiences.
These books will allow our students to engage in meaningful conversations about their feelings and the ways we can manage our feelings.
Our little ones have diverse needs when it comes to their feelings. These resources will allow them to grow into successful, loving learners who can manage their feelings from happy to sad to angry and everything in between.
