Literature for All

My students need literature they can access. My students range from a 1st grade reading level to college reading level. I have found that introducing literature and history through children's books is engaging for students.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are aged 16-25 years of age. Many of my students are at-risk and come from low-income households. Their reading levels range from 1st grade to college level. Reading these books really ignites their love for literature. The level of excitement I see is truly inspiring.

Students who read succeed.

I would like a class set of books to use during silent sustained reading as well as a way to introduce topics to students. This is a great way to break them away from their everyday stress and introduce them to the wonderful world of literature. Silent sustained reading helps them calm down and focus in class. Some of these students have never read a book or had access, but want to read throughout the class because they are so engaged in the story.

Your gift would make it possible to bring literature to my students.

My Project

My students range from a 1st grade reading level to college reading level. I have found that introducing literature and history through children's books is engaging for students at all levels. For my students that have read children's books, it is nostalgic and interesting for them. For my students that have not, it is introducing an aspect of their childhood they may have missed. Children's books introduce topics in a way that is simplistic and engaging, teaching basic information and moral principles while getting buy in from students. Reading children's books leads to the students wanting to learn more about the topic.
