This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are fierce and energetic, but we have a long way to go regarding our socio-emotional learning development. The past few years of education have been tumultuous with COVID-19, distance learning, intense global conflict and our own political elections, so it's important for us to slow down and talk about how this might affect our ability to show up as our full selves.
These books provide powerful learning opportunities for our students!
They give explicit definitions, examples, and guidance on developing socio-emotional skills such as self-awareness, social awareness, and relationship skills. I would love to have Literature Circles in my classroom, where the students get a chance to read some of these books in groups of 4-5 so they can discuss and apply these concepts.
