Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

If you were to look around my 4th grade classroom this year, you would see a sea of faces...32 to be exact! You would see eager to learn faces and ones that are on the brink of really becoming fluent readers with a love for literature. I am a dedicated teacher in a high-need public school. My students are English Language Learners and are just beginning to understand the impact reading has, which is a huge goal of mine as a teacher.

With 32 students in the class,I have started grouping them by level into literature circles/book clubs. They are really enjoying this new way of learning, however, often times there are not enough copies of the books so each child has their own. With budget cuts in my district we don't have the funds to get these copies in-house. That's where you come in....

I am requesting multiple copies of excellent literature for my students. Some are titles they have requested or topics they have expressed interest in. Others are the great titles and authors that we remember reading as 4th graders, which I am so excited to introduce them to.

Your help will make it possible for me get my students to become readers, critical thinkers, and improve their oral language skills by being able to respond to their peers in a literature circle. These skills are critical, not only for reading, but for their future academic development. I thank you for your time and consideration in funding my proposal!
