My Students

Reading literature is something my students enjoy. The ability to be able to sit anywhere in the classroom while reading is something they also enjoy immensely. My school focuses on incorporating movement throughout the day and flexible seating, and the puzzle pieces and fidget tools will allow them to be able to do this in language arts. They are used to moving during each lesson, and I would like them to be able to continue to do this.

This year my class is reading through the Iliad and the Odyssey.

They are really enjoying discussing the events in the Trojan War and the heroes who fought in the War such as Achilles.

It is amazing to see the questions my students raise about what they are reading during Socratic Discussions. They also love to share their thoughts about the events and characters that occur in what they read and connect the events and characters to themselves and what is going on in our world today. I have seen my students increase their analytical and higher level thinking skills through the use of literature books and Socratic discussions.

My Project

I teach language arts and my students are in need of a class set of The Iliad and The Odyssey. They also love flexible seating and I have quite a few students who are in need of some fidget tools. The literature books will help my students have copies of The Iliad and The Odyssey at their level. The seating and fidget tools will allow my students to have flexible seating or fidget during reading to help them stay focused.

My students love reading myths from Ancient Greece and are required to read these two works of literature.

The ones we have access to currently are not at their grade level which impedes their comprehension. I know that having sets of these two literature books will help them enjoy reading through these works more and help their understanding better.
