My Students

As an ESE teacher in a self-contained setting, my students' needs are intensive. They require significant modifications to curriculum and available materials to make lessons and activities appropriate for them. Most of my instruction is delivered in very small groups to ensure that my students received the on-going, continuous assistance they require to be able to participate fully in learning.

My students enter the classroom each morning eager to learn and do their best!

While they may have complex needs, I won't let anything limit them! From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth. If they believe that they CAN, then they WILL. As their teacher, it my job to ensure that have a positive, purposeful experience during the school day!

While academics are important, we also spent a lot of time focusing on addressing each student's sensory needs and developing appropriate social skills. If/when my students have opportunities for inclusion, it is my job to ensure that they are ready!

My Project

As a true lover of children's literature to teach so many skills -- including social skills

By reading about their favorite characters making "good choices," my students will hopefully transfer similar behaviors to their own day to day interactions with their own peers!

Whether the book is about sharing or saying using manners, my students will be given opportunities to practice those focus skills in structured and unstructured ways. Plus -- they will also be focusing on listening skills and comprehension. Titles will be used in planned lesson as well as when issues arise and good, quality examples are necessary.
