My Students

My second graders love reading and enjoy the books in the classroom library. My students are in the Chinese Immersion program. They learn English half of the day and Chinese the other half. They live in a middle class neighborhood. My class is made up of diverse students, each with different learning abilities. Many of my students are the youngest in their families, with several having siblings in our school. The neighborhood is very involved in our school and want to make it the best ever!

My Project

Children love listening to stories regardless of genre. Hearing audio books helps children see how the words on a page come alive in a fluid and expressive way. It helps develop their fluency skills and caters to different learning styles that compliments the curriculum with a variety of activities.

Benefits of Classroom Listening Centers:

Listening centers are adaptable and can be used with cassettes, CDs and bluetooth. Multiple students can listen at the same time and often take great pleasure in listening to stories and hearing a book. Read aloud allows students to develop a sense of the flow of narrative structure and understanding of language. Because of this the listening center is very cost effective.

With the use of headphones in conjunction with books and CD sets, my second grade students can engage in an experience that will strengthen their reading skills.
