This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

First of all, thank you so much for looking into supporting this project!

I hope to support my students by providing watercolors, colored pencils, and oil pastels to express themselves artistically and develop their literacy.

I am a teacher at a majority-low income school in Chicago, many of whom struggle to supply their own notebooks, folders, and writing utensils. My school serves 98% students of color with a high population of non-native English speakers, migrants, students with IEPs, and English learners. My students are incredible and highly engaged in learning.

I hope to provide sets of art materials to provide opportunities to express themselves visually and grow in their knowledge of art and literature. Studying art is important in the English Language Arts and allows opportunities for interdisciplinary study. Studying literary movements like Romanticism, Afro Futurism, and Modernism allows students to study periods of art and literature. Providing these materials will help students appreciate artistic styles and develop their literacy by discussing and writing about their own art. This project will help over 130 students in 9th and 11th-grade English classes.
