My students need iPads and cases so they can build literacy skills outside of lesson times and access prior anchor charts, video clips, and other information when they are absent or needing a refresher.
Several hard-working groups of 4th grade students pass through my room each day. Our leveled classes allow me to interact with concentrated groups of students based on their need to build specific skills. Though they are placed strategically by need, the diversity within the classroom is ever-changing. I teach nearly as many homeless, low-income, and special needs students as I do well-provided-for students.
In a perfect world, students would be furnished with the most up-to-date, efficient, and engaging technologies no matter the cost; but in the real world, cost does matter.
All of these students are enthusiastic learners. They deserve the best materials, opportunities, and learning environments to help them strive in the classroom, and in turn, succeed in their own adult lives.
My Project
With less access to Chromebooks and desktops throughout the building starting this year, it is important that my students still have several options available through which they can build their literacy skills. Having iPads with cases available will provide students with applications that will peak their interest and allow them to continue independent reading and learning in a fun way!
Technology captures students' attention, and it is a great way to build reading and comprehension skills in an exciting, non-traditional way.
Since tablets are interactive, literacy applications on the iPads will also help insure that students are staying focused and on task while moving at their own pace. Use of the iPads will be incentive to stay focused and participate during class, as well!
Additionally, to keep my classroom environment simple and clutter-free, the iPads will provide the perfect location to keep photos of anchor charts, video clips from lessons for absent students, and other important files that students will be able to access any time they may need that information throughout the year.
