This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students this year are a very special group! They are all emerging readers who are repeating third grade to give them an opportunity to hone their literacy skills. They are working very hard to improve their phonics and comprehension.

Most of them began the year with a very dim view of reading, and one of my goals this year is to help them grow from reluctant readers to eager bookworms!

Many of them have limited access to literature at home, so I'm hoping to give them a new book and some fun reading and writing activities to work on at home over the holiday break.

They love the Nate the Great books and have begun to enjoy word puzzles. Adding in fun writing materials and smelly bookmarks, their literacy stockings should provide them with hours of reading and writing fun for the weeks they're out of school!
