I teach two separate kindergarten classes English Language Arts and Science each day. They are playful, loving, caring, and have a constant thirst for knowledge. They are attending a charter school in their first year, and resources are limited. Also, these students are entering kindergarten with diverse learning abilities and preschool experiences. Some students come from challenging home lives, while other do not. Despite their previous life current life experiences, all my students deserve the same meaningful experiences in their school!
My students learn best through play!
Play is an incredible part of their development, especially in their kindergarten year. They are going through a challenging, yet necessary transition where they used to play majority of the day to where their play is designed in a more structured way. By having more materials in the classroom, these students would be able to mix their need for play during literacy centers and individual work in a way that is engaging and effortless. I could not think of a group of students who deserve these resources more. Please help however you can. Thank you!
My Project
By having unifix cubes, upper and lower case stamps, and upper and lower case play dough stampers, I will be able to create so many differentiated literacy centers and activities, which will allow my students to become more engaged and independent. Once they are more independent, it will not only increase their confidence in their literacy abilities and letter/sound and sight word recognition, but it will allow me to pull more small groups and guided reading groups for individualized literacy instruction. In an effective and literacy-rich kindergarten classroom, small groups and guided reading is where majority of the literacy growth and progress takes place.
