My Students

As a first year 4th grade teacher, I am overjoyed each day to see the love of learning in my students' eyes. I have a passion for literacy, since it is the building block to all other knowledge, and I am always looking for new ways to teach literacy concepts.

Teaching in a small, close-knit community is a wonderful feeling.

Many of my students come from low-income households. Although it is a financially struggling community, it is made up of the most selfless and kindhearted individuals imaginable. Each of my students have diverse educational needs and I am determined to meet each one of them.

My Project

With these materials, my students will be able to work with me in a small group setting, learning basic literacy skills in a fun and interactive way. By learning these skills, my hope is that my students will become more competent readers, writers, and thinkers. The intervention reading folders will be used to help my students better understand inferences, details and main ideas while reading. The prompt and comprehension cubes will become an interactive way to enhance their reading and writing skills. The most helpful material will be the 5-minute vocabulary cards. After taking the NWEA and analyzing the results, many of my students need exposure to higher-level vocabulary. These cards will give me an opportunity to teach vocabulary in a fast and fun way.

As a first year teacher, I struggle with finding ideas to use within small groups for students who struggle.

This donation will improve my classroom drastically because it will give me the tools as a teacher to better enhance their reading and writing skills.
