As a dual language preschool teacher in Chicago Public Schools, I work in a neighborhood with a diverse population of immigrants. My students are both native Spanish speakers and language learners.
My students are loving, energetic people in need of an environment that is rich in high quality learning opportunities, and activities that help them adjust to their first year in school.
Their year in my preschool classroom is often their first formal education experience, and it is my goal to make the social, academic, and language learning process as smooth as possible for them.
My Project
As I start the school year with my awesome group of students, I am realizing that we are in need of some crucial literacy materials!
We need important listening center materials as well as Spanish phonics activities.
In order to take advantage of the listening center library I have accrued, we will need to supplement with new stories, the technology to listen to the stories on, as well as headphones that my young students can use comfortably! In addition, in order to support student skill development in phonemic awareness and phonics, I will need to provide hands-on phonics activities in our instructional language.
