This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I always tell my students that our reading intervention classes are like fun, little families! We are safe in our groups to make mistakes, support each other, and have fun!

In reading intervention, I help students break down foundational reading skills into manageable pieces.

Students in grades K-4 work within their zone of proximal development. This means it's not too hard, not too easy, but just right to work those brain muscles! We often move at a slower pace than in Tier 1 classroom instruction. Student practice and application may be more repetitive and developmentally appropriate for their skill level. Instruction is targeted and groups are between just 2-5 students to best meet student's specific needs.

My Project

A classroom set of VersaTiles by hand2mind will help my students make fantastic gains in their literacy growth! For the unforeseeable future, students will attend school part-time in the physical school building, and the others will be learning remotely at home.

The VersaTiles are versatile manipulatives which will allow students to engage with phonics instruction independently.

Since students can check their answers using the tiles, they are able to self-monitor and correct. This is amazingly beneficial for at home learning when sometimes adults are not available to help or do not speak English. Students can still be successful even though they are at home!
