My students are Kindergartners, 5, 6, and 7 years old. We are a high-need, low income Title 1 public school.
We are gallantly seeking a big hearted donation! I am a kindergarten teacher at a Title 1 school in Phenix City, AL. I absolutely love the students I teach, but sadly we cannot afford all of the necessary school supplies required for our new reading series that was introduced this past fall. Because of the decrease in state allocation money, the supplies I need to finish the school year with the new reading series has dwindled to nothing.
The students use sentence strips to write sentences using their high-frequency words and word-blending skills to form sentences. The sentence strips are put on the pocket chart for easy view after sentences are formed. The additional pocket chart that I am asking for will be used to put the 37 high frequency words that are taught using the new reading series. Having the additional pocket chart will relieve me from having to replace their sentences with high-frequency words daily.
I teach very gifted and talented students that will push themselves to meet any goal I set for them during reading time. I am impressed daily with the effort that it must take to become skilled at blending words, segmenting words, comprehending written passages, and memorizing high-frequency words effortlessly when some students come from homes where torn, ratty hand-me-down clothes is just a given. I would strongly encourage any donation that you can make to help support the reading growth in my classroom. I couldn’t ask for a better job!
