My students need 2 retelling story sets, sight word readers to read in small groups and individually, phonics readers, a chunk stacker game to read and see chunks in words, tri-word storm game to make words, BINGO sets to help with reading readiness, and a match and trace alphabet mat to also help with reading readiness as well as handwriting.
I teach in a rural town in Idaho. I am the only 1st grade teacher so sharing materials is difficult as well as purchasing materials within my classroom budget. My students love hands on learning and are very excited about their reading right now. They feel pretty good about themselves when they can pick up a book and read it.
The students are all at different levels so teaching and planning for the different levels is important and sometimes difficult. We work in individual, small, and whole groups. The materials that I have requested would help in all of these settings and would give students a chance to reinforce their skills and what is being taught.

With these materials, my first grade students will be able to apply their skills and reinforce their skills taught in game situations and reading stories. After I received my science kits from my last proposal, students were so excited about science and I know it will do the same for reading! Thank you!
