Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a diverse group of learners who love school. Their curiosity and enthusiasm create a strong sense of community in our classroom, and despite any challenges they may face, they blossom with resilience each day.
Many of my students qualify for free-and-reduced lunch, classifying our school as Tile I.
With many English Language Learners and students with high learning needs, it is imperative that our environment supports students in every way. The primary grades are a beautiful opportunity to build a strong foundation for learning to support them throughout their education. I aim each day to build that for my students.
My Project
This project is designed specifically to support reading and writing in our first grade classroom. In the upcoming months, first grade students will be reading many series books to deepen their knowledge of story elements. Students will also be writing their own "series books." In order to support these units, I am asking for books from the popular series Mr. Putter and Tabby. These books will be read aloud to students and also read by students in the classroom library.
Having an ample number of books will allow all students to have their eyes on grade-level texts to accelerate literacy development.
I am also asking for materials to support our reading time. Index cards are used for students to read and learn "sight words." These words are chosen individually for students based on their reading needs. Last, we would like more laminating sheets so materials used in the reading block can be reused for the duration of the school year.
