This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are from the most diverse part of Tampa Bay. Because of this, our population is made up of many English language learners. When they come into school, for most, it's their first time in school. It is up to us to make sure they get the best quality public education they deserve. My students are young, ambitious, and curious.
School is a time to explore and play, to imagine and create until the end of the day.
Our school is a Title I/Renaissance School. Most of our students are from low-income families which is reflected by our 91% free or reduced-price lunch status. Although my kids face socioeconomic challenges, they come to school every day willing to learn. I get the most satisfaction as a teacher when I see their faces light up when they finally understand something I'm teaching or when I read a book that they are interested in.
My Project
These journals are ideal for my students to use on a daily basis during language arts and writing academic time to increase their literacy, knowledge of high-frequency words, letter sounds and self-expression.
After introducing new sight words with my students I need resources to reinforce those new vocabulary words.
The sight word daily journals requested would help to reinforce skills taught. We also need picture-word journals. This provides students with a space for them to draw their very own illustrations of the words they are learning to spell. The feelings journals will provide the students with the opportunity to express their thoughts and feelings independently. The overall benefit of these journals is to eliminate some of the copying that is done on a daily basis and the students will have all their resources in one place ready to learn. By helping us with this project you would be providing journal books to my students that they can use throughout the day to further develop their eager learning minds.
