Literacy Is Liberty!

My Project

I need some supplies to help enhance my literacy block for my wonderful, diverse, and creative first graders. Students in first grade struggle to have a solid sense of time, so a personal sand timer will help them to ensure they get 20 minutes completed on our division wide literacy computer program.

To be able to read is not just a human right, but it is an issue of equity and inclusion.

Scientific research shows that students, especially our youngest learners like my first graders, need tactile supplies when learning to read. I plan to make each student a blending board with color coded vowels, consonants, and digraphs with the magnetics and cookie sheets. Students will use the pop-its to pop out each phoneme or sound in small group reading. The cart will be used to store my small group materials. When students finish some literacy work, something hands-on like magnetic tiles is an excellent way to continue creativity.
