My Project

This year, I made the transition within my district from High School English Language Art Teacher to Upper Elementary and Middle School Literacy Intervention Specialist. Throughout the year, I attended multiple district trainings that highlighted the importance of making literacy intervention fun and engaging for students and I have made it my mission to do just that.

As I near the end of my first year as an intervention specialist, I see that, my students had a great many successes.

I would like to build on those successes next year and am looking for materials that will help keep my students engaged and having fun while learning literacy. The laminator and laminating sheets will help me make my own materials such as Velcro boards, reusable worksheets, and choice boards. Making my own materials helps me differentiate my instruction based on the needs of my students. I am asking for white boards, dry erase mats, and pop sockets in order to create a multisensory experience for my students as they learn new words and syllables. Creating a multisensory experience will help them remember what they are learning!

Through the district, my students also have access to online literacy content. Unfortunately, they are not utilizing this as much as they could be because they do not have access to headphones to keep their learning from distracting others. Many of my students come from low-income households where providing essential learning materials is not a priority. If I could provide my students with headphones, I feel they would be making better use of the programs available to them, which would increase their understanding of the things we concepts in class.

My students work really hard and they deserve materials that will allow them to make the most of the learning experience. Thank you.
